If you are seeking admission to a full-time MBA program in India, then the one and absolute gateway to it is to have secured a valid score in an MBA entrance exam. Entrance exams are the starting point and most important step toward your path to a leading management institute.

In India, there is a wide range of MBA entrance exams that are designed as per the needs of aspirants. These exams are conducted at National, State, and University levels. CAT, XAT, SNAP, NMAT, CMAT, and MAT are some of the most popular MBA exams in India conducted at the national level. Candidates can choose to take any of these exams based on their desired business schools.

  • For instance, if your ambition is to study at the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) or other top-tier business schools such as FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, or SPJIMR Mumbai, then the Common Admission Test (CAT) is your best bet. Conducted annually by the IIMs on a rotational basis, CAT exam is the most widely taken MBA entrance exam in the country, with over 2 lakh aspirants applying for admission each year. CAT score is accepted by more than 1,300 MBA colleges in India.
  • The second most sought after MBA exam is the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It's especially taken by candidates targeting well-known Tier-2 private and public MBA colleges. Similar to CAT, CMAT scores too are accepted by 1,300+ institutions across the country.
  • The third significant MBA exam is XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test), which is held by XLRI Jamshedpur. XAT is famous for its quality and different question patterns. More than 800 business schools in India accept XAT scores, such as top colleges like XLRI, IMT Ghaziabad, XIMB, and TAPMI.
  • The minimum eligibility required for all these exams is a bachelor’s degree in any field securing at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized university. Candidates are also allowed to participate in more than one exam so as to increase their chances of admission to MBA colleges.

Top MBA Entrance Exams in India

MBA exams in India act as gateways to the top management and highly ranked MBA colleges in India, like IIMs, FMS, IIFT, SPJIMR, NMIMS, TISS, XLRI, and MDI.
